Craven's Fallen Heroes are now on a dedicated website
A new website dedicated to First World War heroes from Craven was launched on Armistice Day.
The launch event for the 'Craven's Part in the War' website took place at Cracoe Village Hall on November 11 at 11am.
The website was made by volunteers from Craven Community Projects Group headed by Hebden couple Chris and Charlotte Foster.
The project was funded thanks to a £25,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and after 12 months of hard work, the site is up and running. "The project will raise awareness about the men and women who fought and died in the conflict and will commemorate their lives," explained Chris Foster, chairman of the projects group.
With help from the public and weeks of searching through old articles from the Craven Herald in the micro film archives at Skipton Library, the website will be of great use to schools and relatives of the fallen.
"The group hand-inputted more than 4,000 articles taken from the Craven Herald between 1914 and 1921 which was a massive task."
"The group feels honoured to be working on such a worthwhile project project that will pay tribute to the individuals who ied and we are looking forward to sharing the outcomes of this research with the rest of the community," Chris added.
Their recent event day held in Grassington Town Hall on 31st March 2007 was a huge success and Charlottes says "it was a team effort and without the help of their trusty band of volunteers they would never have got this far"
They would like to organise another event in the future but at the moment they need to concentrate on the uploading of the 1000's of newspaper articles and data that the project has produced.
