A682 named Britain’s most dangerous road
The 14-mile A682 that links Long Preston to the M65 has been named Britain’s most dangerous road and the ninth worst road in the world. Auto Express based their research on the recorded fatality rate per 10 miles. The A682 is joined in the list along with roads from Bolivia, Iraq, Portugal, Kenya, Brazil, Australia and the Arc De Triomphe in Paris.
The Auto Express said in the last three years the A682 has had 22 serious accidents. However, North Yorkshire Police have disputed the figures, saying there has been only one major accident and three minor incidents.
However, it is not as bad as it may sound. David John said: “The French take their lives in their hands when they drive around the Arc De Triomphe in Paris. There is an accident there on average every 12 minutes.”
