Gervase Phinn was born in South Yorkshire to a working class family.Bullied at school but loved dearly at home, Gervase Phinn grew up to become a successful teacher, author and schools inspector.

The successful author of a series of books about life as a schools inspector in the Yorkshire Dales, including:
'Over Hill and Dale', 'The Other Side of the Dale' and 'Up and Down in the Dales',

Gervase Phinn's latest book is about his earlier life and the trauma of being bullied at school. He believes he owes a lot of his success as a writer to Esther Rantzen who saw in his work a unique wit and charm which summed up the idiosyncracies and delights of children in an entertaining and heartwarming manner. Gervase also appreciated in Esther the amazing work she did in creating Childline and attempting to protect children from bullying and violence at home and in the playground.

He has also produced a book - Gervase Phinn's Yorkshire - A Pictorial Journey
A must for everyone who has read Gervase' stories. This pictorial journey brings to life the areas of Yorkshire which hold special memories for him, and the inspirations and settings for his books.

Gervase Phinn was interviewed again by Drystone Radio on 15th July and we played some of his favourite music. We will feature this in future broadcasts.
