Communities come together at Scargill
Scargill House in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales is a hidden treasure as far as scenic beauty and tranquillity go. Scargill is, however, about so much more than pretty pictures. Community groups from around Yorkshire use the facilities to run a variety of workshops and events aimed at greater cultural understanding, identity and harmony.
Drystone Radio were invited to an Open Day to see for themselves just what the centre had to offer. Also present were some of the most exciting and promising community initiatives to come out of Yorkshire in a long time: Foundation 4 Freedom, looking at identity issues and understanding of self and others; Active Faith Community, promoting love and understanding between different faiths and none-faiths; Urban Circus, learning through the circus arts and creativity; Mythbusters, bringing children and adults from different communities and backgrounds together in a positive and enlightening way. All present had one thing in common: social cohesion and community building, an ethos which Drystone Radio hopes to build upon with its work within the community.
