PANTOMIME

Pantomime Time at Glusburn

It’s coming up half-term so it’s pantomime time again at Glusburn Institute. Performed by another young cast of school children from surrounding local villages this year the traditional story of Dick Whittington is being staged. Performances will run from Wednesday 17th February to Saturday 20th Feb with a matinee also on Saturday.

Taking the lead roles will be local student, Carly Upton, as Dick Whittington and along side her, Natasha Bowers, as The Cat and Jasmine Holland in the role of Alice. All three girls are in Year 7 at South Craven School. As Director Dev Swan says:

“Giving young people the chance to take on the principal roles has been part of long tradition of pantomime at the Institute. Young people are our future and this year we are giving the lead roles to much younger children than in previous years.”

As usual there will be exciting colourful aerial sequences performed by the famous “Glusburn Flying Ballet” which always delights audiences. Also appearing is the all girl band “The Bow Bells”.

With the show having two dames, played by Philip Gamble and Iain Barwick, it makes the pantomime twice as fun. Both give great comedy performances. In previous pantomimes Iain has played one of the ugly sisters. This is the first time Philip takes on such a role as a dame.

All the cast are excited to be performing and for them its a great experience and good fun. As Tamsin Headey, Glusburn Institute’s Development Officer said:

“We couldn't put on these shows without the children and their families. The support we get from parents and relatives is superb. Preparing for and then putting on the pantomime requires considerable dedication and reflects the villages’ spirit of the community”.

Tickets can be obtained from Forget-Me-Not, the card shop in Crosshills 01535-633702. A licensed bar will also be available.
