THE POWER OF LOCAL RADIO
A pensioner who had run out of tablets for a heart condition was snookered when heavy snow prevented his getting out.
John Cook, who lives in Oxenhope, put out an urgent request for help on his own radio transmitter. Another enthusiast in Micklethwaite passed on his message to the police who made their way to John's house and ascertained what medication he needed. A quick trip to Sainsbury's pharmacy solved the problem.
John has operated his own transmitter since he was 16 but isn't sure who contacted the police. He says he is very grateful to both that person and the police for their prompt resonse.
