About Drystone Radio

Drystone Radio is a not-for-profit community radio station providing media access to local news, issues and interests. Our mission statement is:

“To promote active community involvement in regeneration and social inclusion and to enhance diversity and quality within the Yorkshire Dales area through use of community radio as a tool for cohesion, expression and skills development.”

Community radio has a unique place in the UK, giving people within communities a voice whilst providing exciting and diverse radio. Community radio stations can broadcast both terrestrially (ie: AM/FM) and/or over the internet.

How can I listen to Drystone Radio?

If you have a sound card and speakers on your computer you can listen to Drystone Radio online. To hear the ‘live’ webcast, click the ‘On Air’ button at the top of the Home Page and your computer will play the broadcast through its default music player. To hear pre-recorded interviews and more, click on the ‘Play’ button next to an article of your choice.

How can I get involved with Drystone Radio?

There are many ways to get involved with Drystone Radio, it just depends what you are interested in. If you enjoy writing, digital photography or are simply interested in covering local issues and pieces of interest, you can submit articles to the Drystone website. If you would like to learn broadcasting and editing skills, the team at Drystone Radio will be happy to train you to take the mic, interview others and edit sound digitally. We are also looking for people who are keen to get involved with community projects. Drystone Radio run a variety of projects aimed at helping those less fortunate back into work or develop their skills and confidence and improve their lives. These projects cannot be run, however, without the help of members of the community willing to give up a small amount of their time to help others.

I can’t hear Drystone Radio on my computer

This could be one of several things:

  • Do you have a sound card on your computer? You can check this by looking in Control Panel then Sounds & Audio Devices. Click on the Audio tab and check you have a soundcard listed in the Playback area.
  • Check your speakers are working properly. Check they are switched on and plugged into the back of your computer.
  • Is the volume turned up on your computer? Check the volume button on the toolbar at the bottom right of your screen (shaped like a speaker) and ensure the main volume is not muted or too low. Also check the volume control on your monitor or the side of your laptop.
  • Is the volume turned up on your media player? Ensure the volume is turned up on your chosen media player (eg: Windows Media Player/RealOne Player/Winamp, etc)
  • Is the Drystone Radio logo flashing on the top right of the Home Page? If not, Drystone Radio is not broadcasting at this time. You will find the broadcast hours listed underneath the Drystone Radio logo at the top of the Home Page. You can, however, listen to the pre-recorded interviews and programmes whenever you want simply by clicking the ‘Play’ button next to each article.

I can’t ‘Play’ any of the audio next to the articles

If the audio box appears but will not play, you may not have a Java-enabled browser. To download Java to your browser, navigate to http://www.clipstream.com/help/visitorhelp.shtml. This page will tell you if your computer is already Java enabled, or if you need to download it and how.

Can I advertise on Drystone Radio?

Currently Drystone Radio do not accept advertising on the website but will do so in the future. We do, however, interview and write features on people of interest, which may be an alternative way to advertise your business or organisation.
